Portrait Artist of the Year
In the summer of 2021 we held our first Portrait Artist of the Year competition. Everyone produced 2 portraits, one was in the style of a traditional portrait and the second was in the style of a given artist. Staff met together to chose 2 winners from each class, which proved to be a very difficult decision!
We look forward to the next competition, in summer 2022!
Nursery drew self portraits and also combined it with their Pirate theme.
Year 1 drew portraits of pirates linked to their theme work. They also looked at portraits produced by Paul Klee and the backgrounds that he used.
Year 3 drew portraits of Queen Nefertiti, linked to their Ancient Egypt theme. They studied the portraits of Pablo Picasso and produced self portraits in the same style.
Year 5 produced portraits of Marcus Rashford linked to their work on the Euros 2020. They studied the digital artwork produced by Mallory Heyer and completed their own ideas in this style.
Reception painted and used materials from outdoors to produce self portraits.
Year 2 drew portraits of the Queen, linked to their Queens and Castles theme. The artist they studied was Guiseppe Arcimboldo, who produced portraits by drawing fruit and vegetables for the facial features.
Year 4 produced pencil portraits of Albert Einstein, linked to their work on scientists. They studied portraits produced by Julian Opie to then produce their own in the same style.
Class 7 looked at artwork by Julian Opie and produced self portraits in the same style.
