Art at Cliffe Hill
Art at Cliffe Hill takes many forms! From the curriculum blocks we teach in classes, to the forest school art, beach art activities - all the way to our Portrait Artist of the Year competition!
The overview below shows the themes covered each year, these are reviewed on an annual basis to ensure our curriculum meets the needs of our children and includes a range of local, national and international artists and themes.
We have considered the skills our children need to develop in order to become artists, these can be seen in the document below. Each class plan from this document to ensure progression of skills as children move through school.
Portrait Artist of the year
Our annual portrait competition has been running for a number of years and each year we are amazed by the standard of work which is completed. During the week each class will study two aspects within art; the first part is based on the production of a portrait, where children will use a variety of media to identify key features within a portrait and then draw their own self portrait. Classes choose a variety of mediums to produce these, including use of the outdoor area, using natural materials. The second aspect is the study of a portrait artist, where each class has an artist and will look at the style and form of their pieces of work. Children then produce a portrait in the style of this artist. Over the course of their time with us, children will study a variety of modern and more traditional artists and also a number of abstract pieces.
Here are some of the examples from 2023.
